This is ONLY a problem if you have more than one copy of the SAME map on the device at the same time. Please ensure that you only have ONE copy of each of my contours maps (Standard or TT HD Topo/TT HD Topo Pro) on the internal memory and/or a MicroSD card at a time as otherwise your Garmin may fail to boot.

There are some well documented Mac OSX bugs around handling some ZIP files, this is covered (along with solutions) in the Map FAQ.

This is NOT required if you use Windows 10 (as it has ZIP file handling built in to the file manager, or a Mac, as ZIP file handling is built-in to Finder).

If you don’t have a program to handle/unzip ZIP files I would recommend 7Zip which is available FREE from here. If you have a Zumo XT the map (IMG) file may need to be placed in a folder named MAP instead of the more usual one named GARMIN. The only modern device exceptions are the Zumo 550/660/XT and Edge 705 models. If you have a Legend, Vista, Venture and GPSMap60 models (which have a MicroSD card slot, such as the CX or HCX models), you will need to rename the map file to GMAPSUPP.IMG ( this rename step is only required for these older Garmin devices, it is NOT required for newer models such as the Etrex 20 or later, Oregon, GPSMap62/64/65/66, Montana, etc.) for those you don’t need to change the map filename at all). You can change this behaviour by clicking on the View tab in Windows File Manage (explorer.exe) and tick the “File name extensions” tick box, as show in the screen shot below: IMG extension, do NOT add it, as Windows by default hides many file extensions (Mac computers don’t hide it). See the section below the GPS instructions for installation guides for those. The only exception to this note above, is the the specific BaseCamp versions which are designed to be directly used on a computer in BaseCamp, and not on the Garmin. Which as you have found out doesn’t work the map file is NOT a Disk or other Mountable Image file, no matter what your computer tells you, it is the map file in Garmin IMG format, ready for direct use on the Garmin device or installed on to a MicroSD card (as applicable). Please Note: if you see a message telling you that the file is Corrupted (Windows) or Not Mountable (Mac), it is because you are trying to open/run/execute the map file on your computer. That you have freed up any space from older versions of the same map or other files/maps deleted from the MicroSD card or internal storage when you delete a file, it is not really deleted and the space it uses is not really released (made available) until you empty the Trash Can (on a Mac) or the Recycle Bin (on Windows). The MicroSD card or internal storage is large enough for the map to be copied into, and 2. Please Note: If you see a message saying that there is not sufficient free space on the devices internal memory or MicroSD card, please ensure that 1. Extracting the files from the ZIP file (unzipping), is like emptying that same jar in to a bowl/dish or on to a plate you can now access all of the content without anything getting in the way. Think of it this way, just opening the ZIP file is like opening a glass jar (you can see the contents, but can’t access all of the content). *If you fail to extract the contents of the ZIP file to a folder on your computer first, you will have issues especially with trying to paste the map to a Fenix or similar device (the option to Paste will be greyed out). The map file must be placed in the GARMIN folder, or it won’t be recognised by the device. IMG or called a Disk Image file) and paste it in to your Garmin.

Simply download the file you are interested in, make sure that you unzip the contents of the ZIP file to a folder on your computer ( extract all the files from the ZIP to a folder on your computer *), then go to the folder that the files were extracted to, select the map file (the one ending in.
